My approach to portrait photography is simple - as with wedding photography, I favour natural and relaxed shots not forced smiles or silly poses. The crucial ingredient to a really good portrait is where the sitter feels confident and comfortable. Being under the glare of lights in unfamiliar surroundings does nothing to help this, so, after many years of being studio-based, I now work entirely on location. Shooting outside or at your home enables you to feel more at ease and less self-concious. The change of surroundings also means my portraits look different for every client rather than taking them through a set of stock poses in a studio. The result is contemporary, fresh photography where you look like you, only better! We have a chat, drink some coffee and have a few laughs too.
